Jill Wran sells 1930s Palm Beach retreat
Jill Wran, wife of the late NSW Premier Neville Wran, has sold her 1930s Palm Beach retreat.
And unlike many of the peninsular's sellers, she even made a small profit on the sandy beachfront.
She bought Hibiscus Cottage in post-global financial crisis 2009 for $6 million, and sold in a recent hush hush off-market sale for $6.95 million.
Wran had been telling close friends it was her last summer at Palmie.
It sold to Watsons Bay property developer Andrew Wiesener, who founded Crownland Developments in 1994.
The Waratah Road property had been the long held home of Stanley Henderson, one of the brothers who ran Hendersons The Silk Centre in Pitt Street, ands his wife, Dinah.
They sold it for $4.5 million in 2003 to the mining magnate Nick Curtis and wife Angela.
When Wran bought the home in 2009, it was the first Waratah Road beachfront property offered for sale in the prior 12 years.
The traditional three bedroom, two bathroom cottage sits at the north end of Palm Beach.
Open plan living drifts out to covered patio and level lawn.
There's also a boatshed and slipway on the 613 sqm parcel.
Wran, a former literary agent, has been involved in extensive legal proceedings involving family.
Her late husband's will has been contested, and their daughter Harriet, was recently released from prison following a two year sentence.
She remains at home at Woollahra where she and Neville bought in 1982 for $595,000.
