The interior designer Mikayla Rose's first floor apartment in Hawthorn East has been sold for $811,000.

Rose, whose work has been featured in many glossy magazines, bought the property in early 2013 for $640,000.

The 5/119 Victoria Road, Cambridge Court apartment has since had an overhaul, retaining the 1930s character while adding some contemporary touches including American oak.

Fronting picturesque Cambridge Street with private courtyard garden entry and internal stairway, the sophisticated home's reinvention has attracted the praise in The Design Files along with House and Garden.

Agents Campbell Ward and Elizabeth Landale of Jellis Craig had been quoting $650,000-plus for the three bedroom apartment.
