Interior designer Meryl Hare and husband John have sold their long-held Seaforth waterfront.

They had to wait over a year to find a buyer.

The couple have been based at the Abernethy Street address since 1991 when they paid $670,000.

Its last advertised price guidance was just over $4 million.

Set on 930 sqm, the home has five bedrooms, a media room, wine cellar and an infinity pool and space beside a paved poolside alfresco space.

McGrath Mosman agent Michael Coombs sold the home for around $4.5 million.

Hare started Hare + Klein in Sydney in 1988. She was inducted into the Design Institute of Australia hall of fame in 2011.
