The Bungwahl church north of Port Stephens has been listed for sale following a decision by the Anglican Diocese of Newcastle.

The property with 130 plus years of history offers Myall Lake views from its elevated 2,025 sqm parcel.

It goes under the hammer on February 17 through Forster Pacific Real Estate Pacific Palms agents David Shaw and Ashley Boyd-Skinner.

Shaw told the local paper that a lot of people want to turn it into a residence.

Not many were intending on relocating the building.

He said he is getting strong interest ahead of the auction including one potential buyer who wanted to maintain the building as a church.

Some 150 people have emailed or telephoned for information about the property, with 15 contracts issued.
