H&M's 10th store to open in Australia will be at Charlestown Square, a Newcastle regional shopping centre.

Charlestown Square is currently undergoing a $45 million development upgrade.

The Newcastle Herald reported UK and Spanish fashion giants Topshop and Zara are also coming to the mall.

GPT's head of retail, Vanessa Orth, told Fairfax Media the entry of H&M into Charlestown Square would consolidate the centre's position as the Hunter's leading shopping destination.

The Swedish retailer, which operates more than 3900 stores in 61 countries, opened its first Australia store in Melbourne's GPO building in 2014.
