The Gold Coast mayor Tom Tate and wife Ruth have sold their luxury Paradise Waters home through Ray White Sanctuary Cove selling agent Matt Gates.

Set amid landscaped gardens on 1206 sqm prime waterfront land, the five bedroom, five bathroom house comes with 40 metre waterfrontage offering large vessel mooring options with jetty, boat-ramp, and its own private beach.

There a sparkling resort style swimming pool, alfresco entertaining, bbq and an eight-person spa added by the couple.

They picked it up for $2.65 million in 2011, well under the $4.2 million paid in 2006.

Tom and Ruth are off to their $3.3 million, 1970s-style Sorrento manor, a move that sees him closer to the council's Evendale headquarters.

Sitting on a vast 4424 sqm, the four bedroom, three bathroom home was once owned by the family of former Gold Coast mayor Sir Bruce Small.

The mayor, who has lived all over the Gold Coast with his family, says he plans to stay put at Sorrento.
