Thistledown, the Macedon Ranges estate of retired Richmond medical practitioner John Bongiorno, has sold for just over $3 million.

Bongiorno bought the 420 hectare farm in Glenhope, near Kyneton and Lancefield, in 1980.

He bought the property to give his family a lived experience in a rural environment.

On the property are two historic bluestone buildings, one being the original homestead of rendered bluestone and timber dating to the 1860s.

The 90 sqm bluestone shearing shed has been fully restored with a corrugated steel roof over the original timber shingles.

There's farm shedding, a silo and a new five bay machinery shed with a set of steel and timber cattle yards.

Pat Rice & Hawkins agent Matt Childs sold the Thistledown, along with a neighbouring district block Spring Plains, in conjunction with Martin Skahill at Elders Real Estate Bendigo.

Dr John Bongiorno is a well -known general practitioner who practiced in Bridge Road in Richmond for many years.
