The property spruiker turned media magnate in the making, Antony Catalano and wife Stefanie have spent $5.6 million to buy back at Portsea, on the Mornington Peninsula.

It was marketed as Portsea's ultimate beach house.

The private estate on 2,330 square metres has a contemporary five bedroom home with a separate study and parent's retreat.

The open plan kitchen, living and dining area opens to an alfresco deck that meets a signature oval swimming pool.

A full size mod grass tennis court and trampoline are located in the manicured grounds.

Peninsula Sotheby's agents Rob Curtain and Patrick Sinn secured the sale.

Catalano, the former boss of the Domain, recently spent $30 million off the plan for one of the penthouses in Tim Gurner's St Kilda project St Moritz.

Earlier this year he bought the Australian Community Media's portfolio of 160 regional newspapers.
