"This home has to be the BIGGEST and the BEST home in FAIRFIELD," was the sales marketing pitch of Century 21 Fairfield agent Nicholas Papadopoulos.

And the weekend auction result proved it with its $1,117,000 record price.

Set on a 1003 square metre 50 Joyce Street block, the offer was a seven bedroom house and a two bedroom granny flat.

There were 12 registered bidders, with six placing bids after the opening $700,000 offer. The reserve price was $1.01 million.

It was marketed as suitable for a large family or two families looking to live together.

It came with a polyurethane kitchen with Caesar stone bench tops and gas cooking.

There was ducted air-conditioning given its nine foot ceilings.

Nicholas Papadopoulos said it was a "real quality home in the best street of Fairfield."

The land cost $540,000 in 2011.

There was an $850,000 in 2008 of a five bedroom house on an 830 square metre Nelson Street block with a separate three bedroom residence.

Last year there was an $830,000 sale of a five bedroom house on 580 square metres on Nelson Street by Nicholas Papadopoulos.

Fairfield's most recent prestige sale, and the highest known previous record price, was $863,000 last month for a four bedroom double storey house built by Allam Homes 12 years ago.

The total 188 Hamilton Road house area was 354 square metres plus a separate one bedroom granny flat suitable for extra income or for the in-law accommodation or home business use.
