Acclaimed chef Greg Doyle and wife Jenny have listed their longtime hillside Palm Beach home, but only with the intention of moving closer to the beach.

The couple have owned the Norma Road home since they paid $500,000 in 1989.

They came to prominence after their 1991 purchase of Pier, Rose Bay's famed waterfront eatery.

The now sold restaurant was once a date restaurant for Kylie Minogue and Michael Hutchence.

The home is available through Debra Zakharoff of McGrath Avalon who suggests a price guide of around $3.8 million.

Set on 818 sqm and surrounded by Simon Oxley landscaped gardens, the home has three bedrooms, two bathrooms and a large entertaining deck.

There is a sandstone framed fireplace, a lower level rumpus room with separate entry and a rear dining area which overlooks the north facing pool.

A Luigi Rosselli extension was added in the late 1990s which included a surfboard shaped island bench in the kitchen.

Zakharoff says there is a fluid indoor/outdoor layout.

Doyle is a keen surfer and plans to stay local, hopefully within walking distance to the Whale Beach.

He has a residential project in Lombok, Bali which is high on his priority list.
