The Mount Sugarloaf Vineyard in the Grampians has been sold.

It has been bought by one of Victoria's oldest winemakers, Best's Great Western.

The sale of the 409 hectare estate was reportedly for $5.5 million.

Some 114 ha is under vine growing red grapes under the Hyde Park Wines label.

Hyde Park Wines is owned by David Wells, Michael Ramsden and Michael Tilley, who planted their initial vineyard in 1997, close to the Seppelt vineyards at Great Western.

It is set a two hour drive from Melbourne.

Founded in 1866 in the Great Western wine region of Victoria, Best's Great Western is one of Australia's oldest continually family owned and operated wineries.

Best's has only had two owners, the Best family who founded the winery, and the Thomson Family with a fifth generation Thomson is now running the winery.
