A 1930s Hawthorn, South Australia house has been sold for $1.125 million, making it Adelaide’s most expensive weekend auction sale.

Located at 21 Sussex Terrace, the 788 sqm Art Deco-style property was originally crafted as a doctor’s residence with consulting room and is an icon in the area.

Built in 1938 it was last sold in 2008 for $880,000.

Recent renovations and extensions has been made to the property.

Formal lounge room has an adjoining study room with separate entrance while the formal dining room has original fireplace and window seat with garden views.

The master suite has its own ensuite and walk-in robe while the other two bedrooms have their own built-in robes.

There is also a freestanding apartment with fourth bedroom with its own walk-in robes, bathroom and living room or it can be used as a pool house as well.

The kitchen features granite benchtops, gas cooking and fully equipped stainless steel cooking appliances.

An outdoor area has its own in-ground swimming pool.

Other features includes double garage with workshop and side access.
