Lawler House, a trophy home in Albert Park featuring a tower lookout, has sold at auction for $9.01 million.

The Page Street home fetched more than its $8.4 million reserve at the weekend, with over 100 turning up to look.

It was bought by an upsizing local, trading for the first time in almost three decades.

It was sold following the death last year of estate agent John Holdsworth, nicknamed in the officer as the Mayor of Albert Park.

His former office of Greg Hocking Holdsworth saw bidding start at $7 million. The price guide's top of the range was $7.5 million.

Set behind its original Victorian facade, the 1880s home underwent a renovation in 2008 which has created the five bedroom family entertainer.

An automated glass doors that connect a spacious living domain with the rear pool and spa on its 600 sqm parcel.

The tower, with views of the city from the top, is accessed by a spiral staircase.
