Retail chief Mark McInnes secured $3.35 million when he auctioned his Illawarra beachfront weekender in Coalcliff.

McInnes was the boss of David Jones in 2007 when he bought the two-storey house for a then record $2.5 million as a getaway from his North Bondi apartment abode.

Three years later McInnes moved to Melbourne to take up the job at Solomon Lew’s Premier Investments.

Having upgraded recently in Toorak with his wife Lisa Kelly, McInnes was not there when it went under the hammer through Ray White Helensburgh’s Simon Beaufils.

He had offered a $3.3 million guide.

There were the three bidders after the bidding opening at $2.3 million.

The sale came after the top bidder upped their offer from $3.3 million to $3.35 million.

The record remains $3,387,000 in October last year for a beachfront sold a few doors away to the Hansen family.
