Actor Cate Blanchett and director husband Andrew Upton have listed their 1877 heritage listed Sydney home Bulwarra with $20 million hopes.

They purchased the sandstone waterfront Hunters Hill trophy home in 2004 for $10.2 million.

The celebrity couple are preparing to move to the United States.

Bulwarra, on 3,642 square metres, has five bedrooms that open to a verandah overlooking the water. A master retreat is housed in a private wing

The property is for sale through expressions of interest campaign expected to begin in September.

It is being sold through Ken Jacobs of Christie's International.
