More about “One Queensbridge Street - 1-23 Queensbridge Street, Southbank”
Urban’s three favourite things about One Queensbridge:
- The landmark and sculptural design of the tower.
- The reinvention of the mixed use precinct and the active streetscape.
- The endless lifestyle and entertainment opportunities.
Australia’s biggest casino operator Crown Resorts has purchased the site at One Queensbridge with an expected 90 storey skyscraper approved by the City of Melbourne under the designs of Wilkinson Eyre architects in collaboration with Architectus.
One Queensbridge will rise above the Yarra River in the modern metropolis of Southbank to a height of 323 metres which will be the tallest in Australia to roof when completed.
The 90 floors will comprise of 708 one, two and three bedroom apartments including the highest penthouses in Australia to date, 388 hotel rooms with a pedestrian bridge linking to the Crown Promenade Casino and Resort located across the road.
The hotel will feature a truly unique special event space and a publicly accessible restaurant, lounge and garden terrace at the top of the tower. In addition to the proposed landmark hotel tower, Crown and Schiavello are also proposing a major upgrade to Queensbridge Square, providing an active streetscape and public forecourt area with retail outlets and restaurants, connecting seamlessly to the public domain and vibrant promenade.
This will become a new amenity for locals and visitors by improving the precinct’s attractiveness.
Wilkinson Eyre’s elegant solution for One Queensbridge is created by interlocking three plectrum shapes to provide a sculptural composition.
The tapering forms allow the tower to read as a beautiful object with a unique identity, contrasting against the more rigid forms of the adjacent buildings.
A key component of the design is the pedestrian link bridge that will provide hotel guests with all-weather access from the lobby of the new hotel to the Crown integrated resort.
Crown Casino is one of Melbourne’s premier entertainment precincts, with a large Gold Class and Luxe Village Cinemas, casino floors, event and performance spaces, luxury and boutique retail, food courts and an active waterfront precinct.
Crown boasts three luxury hotels comprising of over 1,104 rooms with bars, restaurants and spas all linking to the mixed use complex. The nightlife is impeccable with over 15 clubs and bars within the precinct to maximise the enjoyment of its visitors.
Located in Southbank, One Queensbridge visitors and residents will have panoramic views over the CBD, river and bay area as it stands uninterrupted.
Enjoy the promenade but if you’re up for something more quiet, in just a short tram trip down the road you can arrive at South Melbourne Market with fresh food stalls and eclectic boutiques that line Clarendon Street, you can enjoy your coffee in peace not too far from home.
Across the river is the bustling CBD with all of the finest major retail, employment, parklands and nightlife opportunities. Take advantage of Southbanks connectedness and ability to breathe whilst remaining inner city with the Royal Botanic Gardens within walking distance from your doorstep.
The ambitious plan hangs in the balance for the moment with Crown asking the state to provide funding for the build and to no avail.
