The Byron at Byron Resort and Spa, frequently named in the top 10 best luxury resorts in Australia, has been sold.

Listed for sale for the first time with around $50 million hopes, it was reportedly sold for around $45 million to Syrian billionaire Ghassan Aboud.

Harvey listed the 92-suite resort for sale in May.

Aboud has a string of east coast Australian tourism enterprises through his Crystalbrook Collection which includes the Port Douglas marina.

Aboud, ranked 16th on Forbes' Arab billionaires list in 2019 with a $1.75 billion estimated wealth, has a Dubai-based car export business.

Opened in 2005, the owner-operated eco-resort is being offered by billionaire retail giant Gerry Harvey, the executive chairman of Harvey Norman.

Harvey told The Weekend Australian on listing that he believed it was worth between $40 million and $50 million.

The Broken Head Road property bordering Suffolk Park has 92 suites, a one-hatted restaurant, infinity swimming pool, tennis court, gym, lobby retail shop and a day spa.

It sits in 18 hectare of subtropical rainforest with beachfront access.
