A modernist house designed by architect Peter Hirst at Pymble on Sydney's upper north shore was listed with a $3.25 million asking price after failing to sell at its recent auction.

And now its price indicator has now been reduced to $2.95 million plus.

In the lead up to its May auction it had been marketed with $3 million plus hopes through Tim Fraser of LJ Hooker Wahroonga-Pymble.

The Peter Hirst-designed house was built in 1969 for the Blunt family.

It is the home of George Pethard, owner of steel-manufacturing business Nevco Engineering, and his wife, Karen, who bought the property for $2.8 million in 2007 from the Heath family.

Set a 2384-square-metre block with a heated swimming pool, level lawns and established gardens, the Pymble Avenue property was renovated in 2006.

The renovation was undertaken by the lawyer Derek Heath and his wife, Elizabeth, by Lesiuk Architects.

The five bedroom, two bathroom house comes with a Carrara marble kitchen, plus large formal and informal living areas that flow onto the garden.
