Justin Hemmes hospitality giant Merivale has revealed its latest acquisiton.

They've bought The Duke of Gloucester Hotel in Randwick, affectionately known to locals as The DOG.

The heritage-listed building on the cross section of Frenchmans Road and Clovelly Road cost Merivale around $32 million.

It was sold by hospitality operator Good Beer Co, who in 2018 kept Paddington's Four in Hand as a hospitality venue when it was listed with having the potential to be converted to a residence, much to the dismay of locals.

Good Beer Company is headed by George Azar and run by his nephew John. Good Beer Co retain the Keg & Brew in Surry Hills.

No announcement yet of Merivale's future plans for The DOG, just that they get the keys in January 2021.

The DOG joins Coogee Pavilion, Hotel Centennial, The Royal Bondi and The Paddington in Merivale’s growing Eastern Suburbs pub portfolio.
