A historic complex in the suburb of Riverstone has just been listed with $1.5 million hopes.

Originally built in 1985, 16 Wealtheasy Street, Riverstone is home to the Saint Mary of Cherso (SMOC) Association – a not-for-profit association and function centre.

SMOC was established in the 50’s to cater for the waves of European immigrants arriving in Australia, especially in Blacktown.

As a cultural club and community icon, it was the decision of the SMOC Association to donate 100 per cent of the sale of the premises to charity, including The Cancer Council, The Sydney Children’s Hospital, the Heart Foundation and St Vincent de Paul society, among other beneficiaries.

A spokesperson for the community said, “with many of the original members having passed away, or now in their twilight years, it was the decision of the SMOC community that no member will personally benefit financially from the club.

As a result, the decision was made to sell the premises, with 100 per cent of the proceeds to be donated to worthwhile charities, to further benefit the community.”

Starr Partners sales agent, John Kelly said, “as a fully licensed venue with two functioning commercial kitchens, a servery bar, a stage with a PA system, and a ‘Hall of fame’ board, it is the hope of the committee members that the club premises will remain a community centre in some form."

“Situated in the nascent Blacktown City region, wherein billions have been spent on master-planned developments and infrastructure projects, such as the nearby Marsden Park Business Hub, there’s great potential for future development of this land,” Kelly concluded.
