Eiger Chalet at Perisher set for auction after 51 years' ownership
The Eiger Chalet at Perisher in the NSW ski fields has been listed for sale.
It’s the first time the ski lodge, along with its White Spider restaurant in Perisher, will have been sold since its construction by its original owners and builders. They have put the accommodation and restaurant up for April 19 auction through Ray White Hotels Australia.
White Hotels Australia director Andrew Jolliffe says the premises was once the number one place to stay in the Australian Alps. "The business leasehold will be sold on a walk-in walk-out basis, comprising an impressive inventory of restaurant, accommodation and over-snow equipment," Jolliffe says.
Established in 1961, Eiger Chalet sits 100 metres from the Perisher chairlifts and 250 metres from the Perisher ski tube terminal. Named after the famous ski resorts in Switzerland, Eiger is co-owned by a consortium of investors including the Fischer family.
It's a 66-bed public lodge with a 100-seat restaurant. The property's lease with the National Parks and Wildlife Service runs until 2025, with the potential of a 30-year extension to 2055. It was briefly listed for sale back in 1989.
It’s now listed by Jolliffe in conjunction with Ray White Snowy Mountains Region agent Richard Pembroke. Given the recent sale of the nearby 70-bedroom St Moritz for $3.2 million, more than $2.5 million is tipped for the 2,000-square-metre leasehold offering.
