The US retail giant Costco has secured planning approval for its next store in Australia.

A $40 million Costco outlet at Casula in the Sydney's southwest has been approved and will include a 14,000-square-metre Beech Road wholesale and retail warehouse.

Costco has three stores open in Australia: one in Melbourne’s Docklands, one in the Sydney suburb of Auburn and one alongside Canberra Airport.

The group plans further projects at Ringwood in Melbourne and at North Lakes in Brisbane.

Big-box retailing is in full swing in Australia, with Property Observer reporting in January that the local arm of bulk buying group Costco received yet another $50 million from its parent company in order to fund further expansion after reporting its first profit.
