Art collector Peter Maddison has listed his long held Surry Hills commercial premises.

Maddison, who paid $840,000 for the 1830s built sandstone property, opened Filter Fine Art on the ground floor of 201 Albion Street last year along with Dr Ian Geraghty.

Previously it had been Badger & Fox Gallery.

One of Filter Fine Arts earliest exhibitions were British artists known internationally.

Works from the likes of Tracey Emin, Antony Gormley and Damian Hirst were featured.

The property, offered as a freehold, is also being marketed as having residential potential with four upstairs bedrooms.

The gallery space downstairs would act as the open plan living and dining areas. There's a recently added open living room that flows to an architecturally designed rear courtyard.

In the courtyard is a heated swimming pool and a built in barbecue. The entire roof was also recently replace, with extensive solar panelling installed.

There are nine cameras as part of the state of the art security system.

One Commercial agents Simon Kent and Joshua Charles have the listing, with offers between $4 million to $4.2 million being sought.

Peter Maddison studied advertising and fashion photography at Medway College of Design (now UCA) and has worked as a photographer in the UK and overseas.

Since 1986 Peter has been a director at Flash Graphics with large format graphic production facilities in Sydney, Brisbane and Canberra.

Flash Graphics is currently a sponsor of the National Gallery of Australia and has worked closely with them on projects including ‘James Turrell – A Retrospective’, ‘Mudmen’ by Ramesh Nithiyendran, Fiona Hall’s ‘Wrong Way Time’ and ‘Light Moves: Contemporary Australian Video Art."
