The retired politician turned author Peter Garrett and his wife, Doris have lowered the asking price on their 5.8 hectare Mittagong retreat, Rowe.

The historic Queen Anne Federation cottage now has $2.95 million expectations rather than its initial $3.3 million plus through Drew Lindsay Real Estate agent John Renouf.

Rowe Cottage was among the Mittagong Cottage Homes, established from 1885 by the State Children's Relief Board.

The cottage has undergone extensive renovation since bought for $531,000 two decades ago.

Peter and Doris are planning to spend more time up in Sydney at their newly acquired $2.7 million Paddington terrace, and possibly buy something smaller in the highlands.
