The Board of St Vincent's College at Potts Point were the $3 million buyers of a neighbouring property at auction last night.

The Federation terrace house, Heatherdene looks one removed from its school campus, but Title Tattle gleans it's actually next to the terrace they'd previously owned.

Its selling agent Debbie Donnelly at Phillips Pantzer Donnelley had been giving buyers a $2.8 million plus guidance.

Positioned in the Rockwall Crescent cul-de-sac, the two-level residence was built in 1903 for William McElhone, a 1920s Lord Mayor of Sydney.

The meticulously restored house has a modern design by Kennedy Associates Architects. Vendor Patrick Gill bought Heatherdene at 4 Rockwall Crescent in 1993.

It features original marble fireplaces, NZ Kauri floorboards and 3.6 metre high pressed metal Wunderlich ceilings.

Commonly known as Vinnies, is a Catholic, secondary school for girls, with frontage to Victoria Street. It has 680 girls in Years 7 to 12, including 140 boarders.
