Empty Redfern renovator's delight sells for $1.18 million

The terrace house at 53 Wells Street, Redfern - double-fronted terrace on 200 square metres - sold at weekend auction for $1.18 million.

The deceased estate sold through Ben Forsyth of McGrath Edgecliff who had issued 13 contracts.

It was formerly an artist’s home, but left empty for five years. 

The two bedroom home was bought by a young couple.

Redfern house prices have jumped by 16.2%, according to CoreLogic RP Data. Forsyth was quoting $850,000 plus.

At 12 John St Ashfield about 100 spectators saw two bidders go all the way at each other from start to end when offered through Domenic Bucciarelli of LJ Hooker Ashfield.

The auctioneer Rob Trovato of Auction Services secured $1,122,000 which was $142,000 over reserve for the house which was a heritage listed, in need of repair, and offered with the potential of building a granny flat.
